Supporting people with type 1 diabetes through technology.
Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) systems — sometimes called “hybrid closed-loop” or “artificial pancreas” systems — combine an insulin pump, a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), and an algorithm that automatically adjusts insulin delivery. They aim to improve glucose control while reducing the day-to-day burden of diabetes management.
At Hilltop Specialist Centre, AID support is a collaborative service:
- Diabetes Nurse Practitioner (NP): provides assessment of suitability, medical initiation of AID systems, prescribing of insulin and consumables, and ongoing medical oversight.
- Diabetes Educator (CDE): delivers patient education, device training, troubleshooting support, and lifestyle integration guidance under the direction of the NP or endocrinologist.
Together, they ensure both the clinical safety and the practical support that people with type 1 diabetes need to make the most of AID technology.
Benefits of AID
- More stable glucose levels and reduced hypoglycaemia risk
- Less time spent on manual insulin adjustments
- Improved quality of life and peace of mind for people with diabetes and their families
Getting Started
- A referral from your GP or endocrinologist is required.
- Medicare and private health cover may apply to some devices.
- Our clinicians will work with you to select the most appropriate system for your needs.
